Paul sums up His prayer for the Ephesians, his heartfelt request to God on their behalf, with these words: “Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God!”
God’s desire, here expressed by Paul, is that His saints would be complete, fully equipped, and perfect in Jesus Christ. Notice the richness of Paul’s description–“Complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
As He ate His last meal together with His disciples, Jesus described true life in this way…”I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from Me, you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NLT The completed life, the full life, the fruitful life, is possible only by living in Jesus, and by Jesus’ living in us, the “fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
Throughout the New Testament, we find the words “perfect”, “complete”, and “fullness” used many times to describe the life of God’s saints. And this complete fullness is only found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. As we saw earlier in this passage, it is Christ making His home in our hearts, as we trust in Him. For only Jesus can live the complete, full, life of God’s power; but the marvel of marvels is that He wants to live this live in our hearts!
