“The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” John 1:5 NLT
These words of hope and comfort resound through all the centuries since they were written, a testament to the daily and ultimate triumph of Jesus Christ and all who are in Him over the Prince of Darkness and all his forces.

In the beginning, God looked over the world, covered in darkness and water. “Let there be Light!” He said, and there was light. Every day, His sun drives back the darkness, flooding the earth with light; by night, the moon reflects the light of the sun back to earth, and the stars provide men with both guidance and a glimpse into the immensity and glory of God.
Hundreds of years before Jesus came to earth, the psalmist and the prophets claimed God as their Light, their overcoming champion. “Rejoice not against me, o my enemy!” cried the prophet Micah. “When I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me!”
In spite of repeated, prolonged, and savage attempts by the darkness to extinguish the light, the light always triumphs. Corrie Ten Boom and her sister spent months in the darkest possible conditions, a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. In the midst of all that hatred, starvation, disease, and death, the light of God’s love continued to burn brightly, touching many souls.”People will listen to us, ” Corrie’s sister Betsy told her, “because we have been here. There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still.”
As the glorious light of the Gospel spread throughout the world after the resurrection, Satan used the persecution of paganism in an attempt to halt its spread. Failing that, he turned to religion, a claim to be the church of Christ while trying to destroy the Gospel of Grace, subvert the written Word of God, and persecute the true disciples of Jesus. Through it all, the Light of God remained burning, kept alive in the hearts of faithful men by the presence of Jesus Christ, the Light Himself within them.
And one day, shining like the lightning from the east to the west over the whole heavens, the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, will return in triumph to this earth. The darkness will realize its final defeat, and the saints of light will live with their Beloved Lord Jesus for all eternity! Glory to God forever!
