Once more, Jesus addressed the crowds. “I am the Light of the World,” He said. “If you follow me, you will not walk in darkness, but you will have the Light of Life.”Light– how important that is to everything in our lives. We need light in order to function. We need sunlight in order to be healthy. Without the light of the sun, there would be no plant growth, and thus, no food.
We need light mentally and spiritually, too. We need clarity to see what is the right decision to make. How we hate to be “left in the dark” about things. We long to be bright and sunny people, rather than dark and gloomy and depressed.
Jesus is the Light of the world, the Light of Life. In all things, He is the answer. He keeps us spiritually alive. He feeds us spiritual food. He is the source of all spiritual wisdom, and He is the source of all our joy.
Jesus said that those who follow Him will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life. In other words, if we would not be left in darkness, we must come with the Light and stay with the Light. We must believe in Him and obey Him– abide in Him, as He said. With Him, we do not need to fear the darkness.
