“There is more than enough room in My Father’s home,” Jesus told the eleven disciples with Him in the upper room at their last supper together. “If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:2-4 NLT
In this passage, Jesus gives us a glimpse of how welcoming, generous, and warmhearted both He and His Father are. For Heaven is not just a “better place” where those who are saved will go once their time on this earth is over. No, Heaven is the family home of Jesus and His Father. And Jesus assured the wondering disciples that there is more than enough room in His Father’s home.
Jesus also told His disciples that He was leaving them so that He could prepare a place for them in His Father’s house. He would come back for them, he said, and take them with Him, where they would become permanent family members in His heavenly home.
For three years, they had shared His life as a homeless, travelling evangelist in Galilee and Judea, with not even a bed He could call His own. Now Jesus was telling them that, although He was leaving them for a while, He would return for them, to take them where they would live forever with Him in a spacious and glorious home, His own family home.
