In His letter to the Corinthian church, Paul rejoices at the spiritual gifts God had given them, belonging as they did to Jesus Christ His Son. They were, Paul said, “enriched in every way”, with all the gifts they could need while they eagerly awaited the return of Jesus Christ.
Yet even with all the spiritual gifts, Paul points out that it is God Himself Who will keep us strong until the end. “He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. God will do this, for He is faithful to do what He says, and He has invited you into partnership with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:8,9 NLT
In this passage, we see a beautiful partnership between God, and His Son, and the believer. God equips the believer with everything he needs; God keeps him strong, to run well until the end, to be found without blame at the return of Jesus Christ. The believer, kept strong and equipped by God though he is, yet still must run the race; he still must avail himself of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, which keeps him free of guilt and sin and blame. The end goal is a perfect partnership, a perfect union with Jesus Christ, the Son of God, into which partnership we have been invited by God the Father; and, once again, this goal is completely secured by the faithfulness of God, Who will always do all that He has said.
