Paul continues his list of gifts which God gives to individuals in His church– a list of many different gifts, but all from the same Holy Spirit, all for the service of the same Lord Jesus Christ, all to build up and strengthen the Body of Christ.
“He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy.” 1 Corinthians 12:10 NLT.
In both the Old Testament and the New, God enabled His servants to do miracles, both to fulfill immediate needs and to show those watching that God is present and in control. The person empowered to do the miracles was also marked as “a man of God.” God has enabled His servants to feed the hungry, raise the dead, reverse the affects of poison, and to demonstrate in many other ways both the power of God and His care for His people.
God is at work in His people still today, through His servants doing miracles of provision and protection.
God knows the future; we do not. One of the great provisions of God for His church is giving to individuals the power to prophesy, the ability to warn His people of coming events so that they can prepare accordingly. In this yet again, we see the power and knowledge of God, and His loving care for His people.
