In his letter to the Corinthian church, Paul confronted some of the believers who were saying that there will be no resurrection from the dead. In short, he told them that without the resurrection, his preaching is false, our faith is useless, our sins remain, and we will never hope to see again our loved ones who have passed on. Without the hope of the resurrection, we Christians would be the most miserable men in the world.
“But in fact, Christ HAS been raised from the dead! He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.” 1 Corinthians 15:20 NLT.
The Gospel is true; our sins and guilt have been removed. Christ is alive forevermore, and invites us into a relationship with Him by faith. Our loved ones who have gone before are alive and waiting for us, and we will see them again one day. We ourselves have been raised into newness of life even now; we will be raised again in new bodies to live with Jesus in Heaven for all Eternity.
Jesus Christ is the first and the greatest in the resurrection, but He surely is not the only One! He is the first of “a great harvest” of those who leave behind this earth and this life for a glorious eternity in Heaven.
