Continuing his letter to the Corinthian church, Paul describes the order of the resurrection. Christ, of course is the first in the resurrection– the first fruits of a great harvest. And when He returns again to this earth, all who belong to Him will join Him in the Resurrection.
“After that, the end will come, when He will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having destroyed every ruler and authority and power. For Christ must reign until He humbles all His enemies beneath His feet. And the last enemy to be destroyed is death.” 1 Corinthians 15:24,25 NLT.
There is complete certainty in the total and final victory of Jesus Christ over all; He is ruling now, and His rule will continue until every rebellion against His authority has been humbled and defeated. Last of all death itself will be destroyed.
From the time of Adam onward, men have been under the rule of death. Individual lives are lived, directed and influenced by the knowledge that death will come and the fear that it will come too soon. The fear of death has been one of the greatest weapons used by rulers and governments to control their civilizations.
Thus, when Jesus Christ arose from the dead, and His followers proclaimed this as fact, the rulers of that day lost their power over them. Men who no longer feared death, who were friends with the One Who had defeated death, could no longer be controlled by threats of death.
Jesus Christ rules over death even today; but there will come a time when He will finally and publicly destroy death.
