In the opening portion of his letter to the church in Ephesus, Paul details the amazing plan of God, the liberation of sinners from both the sentence and the power of sin, adopting us into His own family, making us blameless in His sight. And in God’s family, we are also promised an inheritance with Christ.
“And when you believed in Christ, He identified you as His own by giving you the Holy Spirit, Whom He had promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He has promised, and that He has purchased us to be His own people. He did this so that we would praise and glorify Him.” Ephesians 1:13,14 NLT
As Paul writes, line after line, about God’s astonishing plan of salvation, we are left in total amazement, with praise in our hearts for the God who has done such great things! By the work of God and His dearly beloved Son, we who were His enemies have been given Jesus in Whom to believe. And when we do believe, our sins are forgiven, and we are adopted into God’s own family. The Holy Spirit, the family spirit of God, is given to us, marking us as those who belong to Christ, guaranteeing us a share in the inheritance God Himself has promised.
